My fun is not fun

Today was one of those "kitchen sink" days where I work whatever I feel like working, whether it makes programmatic sense or not. Today it did not, but I had lots of Fun.

I trained at a different Gold's today. Their pull-up bar was all messed up - it had all these random handles sticking out in all kinds of different directions... but none were, like, straight. I had to do dead-hangs with a weird chin-up-slash-neutral grip, and KTEs with a weird overhand-slash-neutral grip.

Also, new gym = an audience for my entire workout. One guy asked what my t-shirt meant. I showed him my hands (left hand still ripped, covered in chalk), pointed to the barbell and said, "fun".

Buy-in
  • 40 KB swings (20K)
Front squats 3x3
  • 5 @ 45#
  • 3 @ 75#
  • 2 @ 95#
  • 1 @ 105#
  • 3 @ 110#
  • 3 @ 110#
  • 3 @ 110#
Still a little light for me - I should be doing 115/120# for sets of three. Next time.

Power cleans (Fun)

  • 10 @ 65#
  • 1 @ 80#
  • 1 @ 85#
  • 1 @ 90#
  • 1 @ 95#
  • 1 @ 100# (F)
  • 1 @ 100# (F)
My 1RM for these is 100# - I've done it once. It was not going up today. I was just too tired - I should have done these before the FS, but I just sort of tacked them on as an afterthought. The fails were spectacular - I don't think the bar even made it past my waist.

Cash-out
  • 15 KTEs, to 45 degrees past horizontal
I'm working KTEs such that I'm pretty much upside-down at the top - hips way above head. Good practice for the stuff I'll be showing off at the gymnastics cert in two weeks. I'm still not sure how I qualify to be a "demo girl", but Tucker promises he'll make me look good. I'll be happy if I don't fall off the bar that much.

PS Then I came home and did a set of 11 kipping pull-ups, which is not a PR but I still felt pretty good about them. Jon Gilson told me to visualize "shutting the car door" with my butt on the back swing. For some reason, that totally worked for me.

Have fun at the gymnastics cert! Tucker seems like a VERY good coach with a great sense of humour. His Rippetoe impersonation is hilarious.

And, of course, your shirt is great.

Hmmm ... I'll have to try that 'shutting the car door' visualization - that movement totally makes sense in my brain - is there another visualization for the front swing?
